PlacesBridge of Joy Sculptures

Not historical — just the contemporary layer of the city I kept noticing between the old brick.

A rotating street mural, painted directly onto the brick paving in Downtown Crossing, changes with the seasons.

"Bridge of Joy" sculptures (Charlestown) — Bronze installations by the artist duo Gillie & Marc, including a 36-foot, 7-ton octopus called The Arms of Friendship, installed at the Charlestown Navy Yard in 2025. Named "Bridge of Joy" to symbolically reconnect the two halves of Charlestown split by the Tobin Bridge; each animal represents an endangered species. A nice modern juxtaposition, sitting just down the road from Bunker Hill's Revolutionary War history.
