One of the largest temperate rainforests in the United States, on the rain-soaked west side of Olympic National Park. Fed by twelve to fourteen feet of rain a year, its Sitka spruce and bigleaf maples hang heavy with moss and ferns. The Labor Day crowds meant I never made it in — a reason to come back next time, on a weekday.
