Born on Milk Street in Boston, Franklin briefly attended the Boston Latin School — whose original site is now under Old City Hall on the Freedom Trail — before leaving to apprentice as a printer and running away to Philadelphia at seventeen. He was the only person to sign all four founding documents of the United States.
