John D. Rockefeller Sr.

The oil magnate I assumed this park would be about — founder of Standard Oil and patriarch of the Rockefeller dynasty, once the richest man in America. But it isn't his story at all. The park belongs to his grandson Laurance Rockefeller, who married into the Billings family and pointed the Rockefeller name toward land conservation rather than oil. John D. Sr. never lived here.
